We used to be able to fly the flag here but sometime ago the military requested that, as a liberating force and not an occupying one, we take down all US flags.

Before that happened I was fortunate to be able to fly a flag over the heart of our base. It's not visible in the picture but the flag sits on a concrete base in the shape of the Baath political star. It made for an interesting contrast.

The now weather beaten and tattered flag is folded military style and is soon to be sent home. It is something I will always keep.
