Relating the war to the people back at home

I think this article makes some good points. I haven't been home in a while but I do think there is a strong disconnect between the reality here and the reality in the U.S.. One way to bridge that gap would be to pay for this war as we go. As much uproar and time has been spent on the supposed high gas prices at home I think that if we were to raise taxes to pay for the billions that we're spending here there might be more of a connect. If people had to eat out less, not buy Christmas presents, skip the new iPod, that kind of thing, it would serve as a reminder, however minor, that far greater sacrifices are being made over here.

This isn't a hit on the people at home. It's a hit on the environment that our government has produced that has allowed and encouraged that divide.
